K-TAPING

K-Taping is now an all over the world known method that is used a lot in clinical working especially by doctors and physiotherapists for supporting rehabilitation.

It reduces pain, increases range of motion, supports joint function, activates lymphatic system and endogenous analgesic system, improves microcirculation and has effects on muscle function. Furthermore it facilitates or inhibits muscle function and provides proprioceptive feedback. Also it has facilitatory effect on cutaneous mechanoreceptors.

This highly practical two day course is organized by Rehabtape with instructor Roine Carlsson, Sweden. Roine is a dedicated and experienced Sports physiotherapist with a passion for developing and spreading the knowledge of the method of K-taping.

Mobilisation of the Nervous System

Dry Needling Top 30

Dry needling is a method of treatment which consisting of trigger-point muscle stimulation using acupuncture needles to treat localized pain.

This 3-day intensive course follows the teachings of Dr. David Simons and Dr. Janet Travells groundbreaking books, "Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction - The Trigger Point Manuals", which were originally released over 30 years ago and have recently been re-released in their 2nd edition.

The founders of the 'David Simons Academy' claim, '85% of all patients with chronic pain have underlying trigger points'.

This dry needling course covers the fundamental clinical aspects of dry needling, myofascial pain syndrome, and trigger point treatment. The course is primarily practical and participants will learn to detect, analyze and treat trigger points with dry needling on the 30 most affected muscles.

On completion of the course participants will be well prepared to begin using the techniques in their clinical work.

GRADE V MANIPULATION

This interesting course aims to demystify and clarify the treatment of manipulation, and introduce it as available and appropriate physiotherapy tool. The course covers HVLA (High Velocity Low Amplitude Manipulation), which involves applying rapid mobilization to a specific part of a joint in a controlled movement.

This form of treatment provides a separation of the joint, with increased mobility in the segment, resulting in pain relief for the patient.

This is a 2-day intensive course with instructor Neil Langridge (UK), and is one of few short courses accredited by the MACP (Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists UK).

Neil is a devoted and experienced manual therapist with extensive knowledge in his field, and a passion for everything within the musculoskeletal area of physiotherapy.

The course will highlight and improve participants' manual skills, whilst concentrating on the various aspects of HVLA (High Velocity Low Amplitude Manipulation).

The main focus of this treatment is based on a clinical reasoning model, therefore on commencement of the course, participants will not only have learned various techniques, but have a sound base of understanding, of when and why, one should use a particular manipulation technique.

Pilates Matwork

Clinical Pilates is considered one of the most effective and most commonly used treatment models for injury and pain management. This particular model of treatment, has been developed by physiotherapists to link the current research pertaining to core stability and the pioneering work of Joseph Pilates.

Current research suggests that 'M. Transverus abdominus' and 'M. Multifidus' should be activated by movement away from our neutral center and not in a static mode, which has been assumed in the past decade.

This is an introductory course to Clinical Pilates and will provide participants with a comprehensive knowledge of Pilates mat training. We will learn how to set up specific programs, which exercises to choose for your specific goals, and how to set up reliable outcome measurements.

This is a 6-day teacher-training course (total of 80 hrs training). The course is evidence-based and largely practical, with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) affected as a background and in relation to Western medicine.

As it is an intensive practical course, which will require participants to work as both 'treater' and 'patient', this course is not suitable for pregnant women.

The course coordinator, George Chia (MCSP, Dip TP, MBAcC),from the UK, is a respected board member of the AACP (the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists) and has been organizing acupuncture training courses for physiotherapists in the UK for over 15 years.

Groups: If you are a group (min 10 p) you can make a special request for a physiotherapy course. Sending a whole group to attending a course in Gran Canaria does not only increase competence. It can also act both as a motivator and a way to boost team spirit in the workplace.

Several spectacular sporting events are held annually in Gran Canaria.

The ARC race attracts more than 200 cruisers in November every year from all over the world. The cruisers leave the harbor of Las Palmas to cross the Atlantic over to beautiful Rodney bay, Saint Lucia in the Caribbean.

The Transgrancanaria in March lets their nearly 1500 participants cross the volcanic island by foot. The four different distances, makes it accessible to everyone up for a challenge: 123 km, 96 km, 42 km and 24km.

Two international Marathons are organized annually. Gran Canaria Marathon for runners and Marathon Open MTB for cyclists.

Gran Canaria is renowned for its wonderful, healthy year-round weather – with daytime temperatures rarely dropping below 20°, or rising to more than 28° and the gentle trade winds coming off the Atlantic Ocean, means the weather is always comfortable even on summer's hottest days.

About us

The Health Academy in Gran Canaria was established so that like-minded physiotherapists and healthcare professionals could come together in a stimulating environment, in which they would be able to develop and enhance within their physiotherapy fields.

Our mission is to gather talented, highly qualified, international course lecturers and training providers from all over Europe, and to establish a motivating and supportive network of professionals whose collective goals are knowledge and progression.

The Health Academy's founder and managing director Linda Bryhn is originally from Sweden, and has been living in Gran Canaria for almost 10 years. It is her passion for the island, and equally her field of physiotherapy that led her to establish The Health Academy.

Linda completed her physiotherapy degree at Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm, Sweden) in 1999. She then went on to further her studies at the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2002, where she completed her master's degree (Master of manipulative Physiotherapy).
